DISCLAIMER: This website is maintained by the North Central Texas Council of Governments. Please verify all information with City of Dallas Recycling first before driving to a facility listed on this page.

Curbside Program

Sanitation Services has expanded its recycling program. Dallas residents have the option of registering to receive a Big Blue roll-cart or continue using the blue bag method. You can now recycle more items with your Big Blue 96-gallon recycling roll-cart and there’s no need to separate! Just put everything into the Big Blue recycling roll-cart and place it out at the designated location for collection on your recycling day. It couldn’t be easier!

You must register to receive a Big Blue recycling roll-cart and you can do so by calling the City’s non-emergency number, 3-1-1 or logging onto the City’s website, www.dallascityhall.com.

The HC3 is located at 11234 Plano Road, one mile north of IH-635 (LBJ Freeway). The facility is the first building past the railroad tracks (heading north on Plano Road) on the east side of Plano Road. The building is easily identifiable by its white color and bright turquoise trim.

Yard Trimmings Program

Grass accepted all year at transfer stations and landfill

Dallas residents can dispose of grass clippings throughout the year at any of the city's three transfer stations or the McCommas Bluff Landfill.

Scalping season & bag tags

Residential grass collection is NOT offered except during a 30-day period of the scalping season (mid-March to mid-April) when residents can purchase special use tags (Bag Tags). Tags go on sale in March.

Don't Bag It!

Sanitation Services encourages residents to mulch grass clippings or use the Texas Cooperative Extension's Don't Bag It! plan:

The rule of thumb for mowing home lawns is not to remove more than one-third of the leaf surface at any one time. With this mowing schedule, you no longer need to bag your grass clippings.

Grass clippings left on your lawn will not contribute to thatch, but return valuable nutrients to the soil. They usually contain about 4 percent nitrogen, 0.5 percent phosphorus and about 2 percent potassium, as well as all the necessary minor elements plants need.

Brush & Bulky

Once-a-month collection from the front curb includes large limbs, shrubbery, bagged leaves (in sealed bags with a maximum 50 gallon capacity), furniture, appliances, mattresses and box springs. Please place your items out on the front curb for collection no later than 7:00 A.M. the Monday of your pick-up week. It is also important to remember that items should not be set out for pick up earlier than 7:00 A.M. on the Thursday preceding your collection week.

Do not put out for brush collection bagged grass clippings, new construction or remodeling materials such as lumber or roofing materials. Call Sanitation Customer Service at (214) 670-8613 to get a free estimate on our Cost Plus service to pick up construction or remodeling materials. Please note that bricks, concrete, rocks and dirt are not collected in either the Cost Plus or regular brush and bulky trash collection services.

Composting Information

What is Composting?

Compost is the end product of a biological process that turns leaves grass clippings and kitchen scraps into a dark, nutrient-rich and odorless soil conditioner. For more information about the advantages of composting, call (214) 670-4475.

Electronics Recycling
Please, don't trash your TV. Stop, drop and go to one of the city's four drop off e-cycling locations. This service is provided to all Dallas residents at no charge to prevent TV's and computers from going to landfills and illegal dump sites. For more information and other recycling options please visit www.TexasTakeBack.com.
