Start out
the New Year right by recycling your Christmas tree! Don’t
send your Christmas tree to the landfill. Instead you can recycle
it and give a gift back to the earth. After the holidays, many communities
in the North Central Texas Region will collect the trees at the
curbside or they will collect the trees at several drop-off sites.
Christmas trees can be chipped into mulch for use on gardens, parks,
hiking trails, playground areas and landscaping.
Whole Christmas trees can be used
for river shoreline stabilization, beach erosion prevention, marshland
sedimentation, fish habitat, winter garden decorations, wild bird
feeders and even hazardous materials cleanups.
Never throw your holiday trees into
a storm drain inlet or into a creek, river, pond, or lake. Holiday
trees can clog a storm drain inlet, preventing storm water from
entering the storm drain system, and causing flooding. Throwing
holiday trees into water bodies can damage the health of the water
body as the trees begin to decompose. Throwing your holiday tree
into a storm drain inlet or into the environment is considered illegal
dumping and may result in a fine.
Here's a list of cities and counties
